Bush Hog opened a new 400,000 sq. ft. plant in Jonesborough, TN in September 2002.  This plant features new state-of-the art manufacturing. In 2008, Koyo Corporation of USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of JTEKT Corporation, opened its third US plant in Washington County, Tennessee.  A second new manufacturing facility, Nakatetsu, was also opened that same year.  Koyo and Nakatetsu are located on Highway 11E between Johnson City and Jonesborough.  Both companies are involved in the manufacture of bearings for the automotive industry. The Crossings shopping center located off People’s Street in Johnson City, Tennessee offers numerous opportunities for shopping and dining. Ed Herbert, Mountain States Health Alliance Vice President of Marketing & Communications at the 2008 ground breaking ceremony for the new Franklin Woods Community Hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee.  The design of Franklin Woods Community Hospital, which is anticipated to open in 2010, will be unique with its high-tech natural design, featuring rock formations, trees, and large amounts of glass.  Furthermore, Franklin Woods will be certified as a Leader in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) facility. The management team of Citi, located in Gray, Tennessee understands its role as an environmental corporate citizen.  A “Green Team” has been formed to identify opportunities for energy efficiency, in an effort to minimize its facility’s carbon footprint. Kennametal, located on Roweland Drive in Johnson City, Tennessee, manufactures and exports machine tools and accessories.  This facility employees approximately 300 individuals. In August 1999, the Johnson City Public Library opened its new facility on West Millard Street in Johnson City, Tennessee.  This facility houses approximately 125,000+ volumes in its beautiful 42,000 sq. ft. facility. With springtime comes flourishing red bud and forsythia blooms.  The Johnson City Power Board is centrally among its service area in Boones Creek, Tennessee.  The new Power Board facility opened in 2002 features an energy efficient ground-source heating and cooling system throughout its facility. Grandview Elementary School located off Highway 11-E in Telford, Tennessee is one of two new schools opened to serve the citizens of Washington County.  The second new school opened in 2008 is Ridgeview Elementary on Sam Jenkins Road in Gray, Tennessee. East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is located in Johnson City, Tennessee.  ETSU enrolls more than 12,000 students annually and features a prestigious medical school, which is nationally recognized for its excellence in rural medicine education.  In 2010, the ETSU College of Pharmacy will graduate its first class. Beautiful flowers provide wonderful color and beauty for Main Street city goers.  Downtown Johnson City, Tennessee offers a unique shopping experience, Hands ON! Regional Museum, as well as a variety of restaurants.
